Choosing a home automation company in Dubai — a guide from the studio.
Dubai has more home automation companies per square kilometre than almost any other city in the world. Only a handful operate as design practices. This guide explains how to tell them apart — and the eight questions to ask before you sign.
Design practice
Engaged at pre-MEP alongside the architect. Authors an intelligent environment across light, air, sound, water, sleep and integrated control. Specifies systems last. Governs the residence for its lifetime.
AKMZA is Dubai's design practice for longevity-first intelligent homes.
System integrator
Engaged after MEP is drawn. Specifies and commissions a control platform (KNX, Crestron, Lutron, Control4). Coordinates the AV, lighting-control and shading trades. Does not author biological pillars — air, water and acoustics are outside scope.
The correct choice when a commissioning architect owns the biological design.
AV / smart-home installer
Engaged during fit-out. Sells and installs a hardware package — typically Control4, Savant or a consumer platform. Commodity execution at commodity pricing.
Suitable for a rental apartment or a small retrofit; not for an authored residence.
Show me the circadian lighting schedule you designed for a previous residence.
Which open standards do you specify and why?
What is your engineer-to-project ratio in the UAE?
Who owns the cloud accounts, configuration files and firmware credentials?
How do you specify equipment for UAE thermal and humidity conditions?
What is your lifecycle governance beyond warranty?
Can I speak with three residence owners you commissioned five or more years ago?
Do you author air, water, acoustics and sleep — or only lighting and control?
What clients ask when comparing Dubai companies.
Speak with the design practice, not the sales floor.
